In the photo above I’m sitting at the table I created out of tiles painted by family and friends at my “survival” party, 10 years after my cancer diagnosis.
I never would have guessed that the words “cancer survivor” would be permanently and professionally attached to my name.
My mom’s death at 41…. a breakthrough documentary on breast cancer that I produced… my diagnosis with Stage III breast cancer…advocacy and activism on behalf of individuals and organizations… My involvement with cancer is woven into my writing, speaking, art, and everything I do.
No one inspires me more than the survivors I meet every day. I’m honored and proud to be one of them.
I think it’s important to celebrate no matter what you’ve survived. We’re all survivors of something!
