The July Jinx Part 2

I have to confess, I”m superstitious.

I try not to be; but it’s  hard not to be.

Especially in July.

It’s impossible to ignore my July 4 litany.

And today is part of the July Jinx, Part 2.

It’s our  16th anniversary (sort of).

You have to read this to get what I mean….

    Ah yes, I remember…

I am superstitious too, and though I know it is ridiculous, I spend my life throwing salt over my left shoulder, touching wood and saluting magpies.

I do the salt, knock on lots of wood and say poo-poo-poo…but I had to look up the magpie thing.

Lucky magpies aren’t very common around here; if you had to salute seagulls I’d never be able to walk by the beach.

Oh, gee, thanks for all that information.

I’ve been careful to salute (respectfully) all lone magpies for years. But now it seems I should have been pinching my friends instead, and ritually defying the magpies. Or maybe saluting my friends, pinching magpies and defying the lot.

Bread and butter! If I step on a square I’ll marry a bear, and if the wind changes my face will stick.

All things considered, I’m not sure I’ll get up tomorrow… But you’ll be okay. July is nearly over.

Believe me, I’m counting the days.
Meanwhile you keep saluting and pinching people and birds—and that should cover it. I wonder how these weird superstitions get started in the first place…
