Too strange for words…..

….but I think a few are needed anyway…….to explain this latest sign from the universe.

I’ve mentioned my friend Susan…how our kids went to pre-school together in Los Angeles  20 years ago and we recently discovered we live a few blocks apart in Carmel….  I posted something she wrote on her birthday and a painting she recently donated …..  yadda yadda yadda….

Anyway, though we barely knew each other before, lately we’ve discovered many common bonds—-and now, on top of all the other coincidences, I find out today that she, too, has a thing for….Spotted Dick.

She spotted a can in  Longs’ Drugs awhile back, and it stimulated her sense of humor and creativity—-the result being a series of photographs she took over the last year and  posted today on Facebook after reading my blog.

I could not make this stuff up.   Here’s the Facebook  link—and a few examples:

P.S.   And now— I promise I will not mention those two words on my blog again…… this week.

It’s unbelievable. I have a feeling lots of people reading are tired of this, but I knew YOU would like it. Besides me and Susan, probably no one else has such an appreciation for Spotted Dick. Oops, already broke my promise.

My uncle Kaffe and I were thrown out of the Ritz in London (another friend who’d come along was not only wearing sneakers but jeans good lord!) and so we found ourselves out on the street looking for a good meal and stumbled into a hot overcrowded pub where everything seemed over the top. We were in hysterics already I supposed from our humiliation . . .when the menu arrived and we began to read the offerings out loud we were all to a person completely devestated by Spotted Dick, could not stop laughing, were almost thrown out on our ears yet again, the poor waitress kept coming by for our order then leaving again trying to give us a bit more time to pull ourselves together. We did, eventually. No one had the courage to order it, sad to say. I’ve heard that the Brits have just this year given Spotted Dick a new name which eludes me.

Erin—meet Ruthie. Maybe we need a Spotted Dick Society? I love this story and can totally picture this scene…having embarrassed myself many times laughing uncontrollably in public—although not yet over Spotted Dick. (I have to stop writing that; I did promise….)
Maybe my favorite part of this story is that it involves your uncle Kaffe (for people who don’t know of Kaffe Fassett, here’s a link: http://www.kaffefassett.com/Home.html ) His mosaics have been a major inspiration for me—-I’ve never met him but hearing about this other side of him makes me admire him even more! Thanks for the great story.
PS They’ve tried to rename it Spotted Richard but it hasn’t caught on.
