Food for thought: A giveaway

1. What uses more water—hand-washing or a dishwasher?

2. Is it better for the environment to use a garbage disposal or throw food scraps in the garbage?

3. When you’re confronted with choices from free range to cage free to fertile to certified organic—how do you know eggs-actly what the labels mean?

(For the answers, see below)

You wouldn’t find this information in an ordinary cookbook—but this is also a guide packed with tips for a green kitchen.

I’ve already started eating my way through 250 wonderful recipes.

So I can personally testify that this cookbook has not only calories (and chocolate!) but also a conscience.

Which leads me to the best part.

You can click here and buy it on Amazon—

or you canΒ  leave a comment below—to win one of TWO copies I’m giving away—autographed by author Myra Goodman.

No rules on the comments—feel free to mention how gorgeous Myra looks on the cover. Did I mention she’s a very close friend??

I’ve never done a giveaway before on this blog—and I might never do one again—but this is a giveaway I couldn’t resist….a sneak preview for FOM (friends of Myra).

The cookbook officially launches this weekend with a party at the famous Earthbound Farm Farmstand in Carmel Valley– if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

P.S.Β  Deadline for comments is September 1, when I’ll draw 2 winners.

For the answers to the questions above—see page 9, page 249, and page 376.

This would be SO GREAT to have. My kids are always asking me questions like that – how nice it would be to have the answers! (Especially since …… I tell them that 1) Mom’s always right & 2) Mom knows almost everything.)

    Thanks for the opportunity, Darryle!

I would give this book to my daughter who is also nagging me about eating better. She makes me eat oatmeal every morning with flax seed and brewers yeast (with milk from a different plant every other week, ick)

I can’t go to the party this weekend because I’m going out of town! I would love to win this so I can see what I’m missing out on Saturday!!!

    1. I did that research the last time I bought a dishwasher. The dishwasher won. Did your friend find the same?

    2. I don’t do either. I compost my garbage… Absolutely no one in the UK has a garbage disposal, anyway. I think I would bet on throwing it in the rubbish as preferable to the disposal, but would be interested to hear what the book says.

    3. I know what the UK (EU) “caged hens”, “barn eggs”, “free range”, “organic” labels mean. Oh, we also have “freedom food”. I guess “fertile” means a rooster was also lurking. We are too delicate for that label…

This cookbook sounds wonderful. I’d love to have a copy and would be thrilled to have an autographed copy! Questions of the best thing to do environmentally are always quite complex; would love to read all the tips and advice in this one along with trying some great recipes.

Always looking for ‘backup’ here in NY- being green is almost questioned as opposed to being celebrated like out west. Looking forward to reading book at some point.

This certainly is a wonderful ‘giveaway’. I know I would love to win this book as I love cookbooks for numerous reasons. For it sounds to be truly a contemporary book reflecting our concerns for the earth and how we treat it.

I know that should I win, this beautiful cookbook would certainly be used much.

    Warmest regards,
    Egmont

Looks like a great cookbook. My son has done some video production work for Earthbound Farms (he is with Houseblend Media in L.A.) and has nothing but good things to say about the owners and their products. I do buy Earthbound Farms from my local Mollie Stones market. I wish the author much success with the book!
