A few favorite things….

Cinco, to be exact:

#1:  The tempo:  I love the mix of big city energy and  a relaxed attitude.

#2.  Parks and trees are everywhere—

these trees are my favorites;  they look like something out of a fairy tale.

#3:  The time:    This is a city that never sleeps.  Seriously.  A night-owl like me could really get used to this.

#4.   Who knew everyone in this city would speak my language?  I don’t mean Spanish; I mean sweets.    They are served at breakfast, lunch and dinner;  just call me  La reina de los dulces.

#5:  Dulce de leche : a national treasure and the only thing that could potentially make me abandon chocolate.    I expected to OD on flan— but that was before I tried this at a restaurant the other day:  a crepe caramelized and smothered in dulce de leche.

If I don’t come back home, this is why.

I have befriended an Argentine artisan gelato maker here who PHONES ME when the vats of bootleg Dulce de Leche ice cream are ready to be scooped on his homemade wafer cones. He produces very little because the quantity of milk employed isn’t worth the retail request. People here have not discovered it yet. I on the other hand…

You ahould host a new stand-off:
    Chocolate vs Dulce de Leche

Glad you’re enjoying la vida loca.

Bootleg Dulce de Leche? I LOVE that you found your own local supplier—you’re even more sophisticated and resourceful than I thought. And I love your idea of a chocolate vs. Dulce de Leche stand-off—except that afterwards, I’d never be able to stand up!
By the way, that dessert I love is at an Italian restaurant we loved so much we went back two nights in a row. I think the huge Italian influence is part of what makes the city so appealing to me.

I never signed up for this….didn’t really plan to blog much and don’t have much free time—but can’t resist sharing. Glad you’re enjoying our trip—I’m sure my arm could be twisted to come back when you’re ready to come here for real.
