The People in the Picture

I laughed;   I cried;   I kvelled.

It was a wonderful night on Broadway—-a show plus a party to celebrate the opening of the new musical The People in the Picture—-book and lyrics by my amazingly talented friend Iris Rainer Dart.

Ironically, I realize the last time I went to a party  celebrating the opening of a Broadway show was also honoring a short, Jewish grandmother—the opening of Golda, about the life of  Israeli prime minister Golda Meir.

Iris’ story is fictional and I don’t want to spoil it– but I do have two words of  advice:  Take.  Tissues.   The men in the audience were  sobbing as much as the women.

Remembering the stories and people of our past—was not only the theme of the show but also the party afterwards—

…..the people in these pictures ranging from family to the adorable child actresses who appear in the show.

Everyone else can add their own family pictures and stories online—a great way to value the importance of passing on our memories and our stories.

This night itself was the perfect capper to Iris’ story and lifetime dream—all of us who know and love her were beyond thrilled  to see her words on a Broadway stage.

In  night filled with magical moments thanks to Iris, both onstage and off—I have to say my favorite was meeting a woman who insists I look exactly like Kyra Sedgwick.

Note to Iris: I’ll have my coffee now.

Note to everyone else: Could not resist– the first—and only— time I’ve ever put a private joke in this blog.
